Biography
Jumpscare was formed in November 2015 by Graziano (drums) and his older brother Salvatore (bass). After recruiting longtime friends Vincenzo (guitars) and Lorenzo (vocals) as an alternative/groove metal band inspired by bands like Sepultura, RATM and Killswitch Engage.
Jumpscare wasted no time and prepared their first Demo called “Broken Lands” recorded in their home studio, after multiple submission they gained their first label deal. They got in touch with the label “B-SIDE” and after just six months after their inception, in April 2016, the band ventured into the studio to record their debut demo, Three Marks Of Dreams, at B-Side Music Recording Studio (in Salerno, Italy) produced by the band and mixed and mastered by Vincenzo Turi after that the band started several gigs in their region of Campania and get the first feedbacks and recognition by fans and local promoters.
In June 2016, they finalized the deal with B-SIDE Music, releasing the demo-EP on September 29, 2016. Despite the band handling limited self-promotion, Jumpscare secured a spot on Amazon Music Italy’s bestseller charts for two weeks in October 2016.However, B-Side went out of business four months after the demo release, prompting the band to terminate the contract. As B-Side closed at the end of 2016, the band pressed on with their next release.
During this period, they secured management and established ties with Volcano Records & Promotion leading to a new deal for another three-track EP and a full lenght. Despite the challenges, the band remained active, performing in their region and continuing to compose music. In March 2017, they re-entered the studio to record their first official EP titled Sowing Storms. The EP, produced by the band, was mixed at Cluster Studio in Naples, Italy, by Stefano Formato and mastered by Steve Corrao of SAGE AUDIO in Nashville, Tennessee, United States.
In June 2017 Jumpscare enters officially in the roster of Volcano Records and Promotion, and Live To Rock (later called Impatto Rock) Management and they released their latest work: Sowing Storms.
At the end of May 2017, Andrea Di Martino joined as the second guitarist of the band. They continuing an extensive local-regional gig and they got the chance to play with several national and international acts like Edu Falaschi (Angra/Almah), Giacomo Voli (Rhapsody Of Fire), Dreamshade, DGM, Secretsphere, Arthemis and many more. A lack of a proper release plan, errors in the CD printing, and a deficiency in effective promotion led the band to make the decision to conclude their agreement prematurely, parting ways with Volcano Records.
Additionally, in October, Lorenzo departed due to personal and artistic differences, as the band was shifting towards a more melodic death metal style while still acknowledging their groove metal roots. Shortly after, Ciro “Kirion” Silvano (As The Sky Falls Down, Dirty Sanchez) joined, and the band, undeterred, delved into the creation of their debut album. In January 2019 they were involved in the recording session of their first album: “Don’t Close Your Eyes” in Crema, north of Italy at Sonitus Studio. Their album will be mixed, mastered and co-produced by Tommaso Monticelli (Genus Ordinis Dei) After completing the recording, Jumpscare launched a three-track demo titled “Promo 2019” from the album “Don’t Close Your Eyes,” specifically targeting labels and promoters to secure a record deal.
Despite receiving several offers from indie labels worldwide, they were not convinced due to past disappointments with inefficiencies and lack of promotion from previous labels. This led them to establish Vault Lab, their association focused on comprehensive music, culture, and art dissemination. The decision to create Vault Lab was driven by their determination to overcome past challenges and gain greater autonomy in their artistic pursuits.
Released in October 2019, “Don’t Close Your Eyes” garnered widespread acclaim from both fans and industry insiders. Published under Vault Lab Recordings, their independent label, the album received an extensive promotion through Dying Frontier Promotion (Asia, Middle East) and Grand Sounds Promotion (Eu/Oceania/Worldwide), renowned for their work with bands like Batushka, Vader, Hecate Enthroned, Overkill, Incantation, and more. Considered a top album of the year by numerous webzines, it earned its place alongside bands such as Arch Enemy, Amon Amarth, In Flames, Aephanemer, and Cattle Decapitation.
The band solidified ongoing collaborations with prominent companies such as Trick, Skull Strings, Diril Cymbals, Janara Drums & Distribution, Blue Drum Heads, and Interemo Deus Clothing. These partnerships have endured and played a significant role in their artistic journey.
Following the album’s release, Jumpscare secured opening slots for the Italian tour of Venom Inc and Ancient, as well as organizing a five days tour with Rock Tour Agency (Jinjer, Infernal Poetry) in Est Europe.
Unfortunately, the 2020-2021 pandemic disrupted all plans. During quarantine, the band released covers and remixes featured in the “Enjoy The Scare” compilation, with proceeds going to charity. In 2020, they participated in a Slayer tribute compilation for Antichrist Magazine and contributed to charity fundraisers like “Raccolta Fondi” by Core Crew, “Music For The Earth” by Vault Lab,” and “No More Fires” by Breathing The Core.
Catching the attention of the newborn label Reborn Through Tapes, they released the cassette version of “Don’t Close Your Eyes” (limited to 100 copies), alongside the new release of Kreator, “TERROR PREVAILS – LIVE AT ROCK HARD FESTIVAL”. This collaboration positioned them on the label roster alongside prominent bands such as Cannibal Corpse, Kreator, Discharge, Corrosion Of Conformity, Sacred Reich, Bolt Thrower, Exumer, Bulldozer, and more.
In April 2020, Jumpscare partnered with Italian Championship Wrestling I.C.W. and collaborated with Death By Metal STL for U.S. and Canada promotions of “Don’t Close Your Eyes.”
In September 2021, Vincenzo left the band, and live performances slowly resumed. They also collaborated with Marina Mango Costumi (San Carlo Theater of Naples and more) to the design of their stage outfits.
From 2021, They organized their own festival called “Valle Caudina Metal Fest” and released some live Eps from festival recordings found on illegal sharing sites to safely share these recordings with supporters and friends.
In 2022, post-COVID tours resumed, taking them across Italy and a European mini-tour with Rock Tour Agency, strengthening their relationships and opening new doors in Europe and beyond.
Focused on composing new music in 2023, they navigate post-pandemic motivation challenges with an autonomous writing approach. Concurrently, they intensify collaboration with Spanish distributor Sepulchral Silence.
The band faced life changes and internal situations without losing motivation, continuing to write new songs. Due to work reasons, Salvatore relocated to Northern Italy, temporarily replaced in some live shows by Oliver Tobyn (Alchimia, Othworld).
Despite the distance, Salvatore remained active and actively participated in the band.
In early 2024, the band entered the studio for their upcoming release, entirely self-produced. They collaborated with Seb Di Martino (Siberian Meat Grinder, Moscow Death Brigade, As Mercy Comes) for guitar and vocal production at his SDM Recording Studio (Napoli, Italy), while Drum and bass production was handled by the band themselves in their studio own studio. Mixing, mastering, orchestrations, and synths duties were entrusted to Simone Pietroforte (Within Destruction, As Blood Runs Black, Distant, Signs of the Swarm, Sold Soul, Carcosa, Viscera, he has worked with prominent labels such as Century Media Records, Unique Leader Records, Nuclear Blast, and Arising Empire) at Divergent Studios (Bari, Italy).
The band’s new direction signals a sound evolution, preserving its roots in modern death metal while avoiding replicating “Don’t Close Your Eyes.” Enriching the style with diverse influences reflecting individual band members’ tastes and a penchant for experimentation.
This evolution fuses melodic /symphonic death metal elements, post-black metal, deathcore/metalcore and some prog-metal nuances without denying their early alternative/groove metal attitude. This showcases a fresh infusion of stimuli and influences without aiming for identical replication.
In 2024 and 2025, Jumpscare have solidified their presence in the Italian metal scene with a year packed with intensity and milestones. In October, the band released their powerful new single “Rise And Fall”, marking a new chapter in their evolution. Throughout 2024 and into 2025, they’ve brought their energetic and melodic death metal sound across Italy, sharing the stage with titans like Rotting Christ, Hour Of Penance, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Pestilence (joining the full 2025 Italian tour), Phil Campbell (Motörhead), and Folkstone.
Their presence in Southern Italy continues to grow stronger with the success of their own festival, Valle Caudina Metal Fest, which in its fifth edition welcomed nearly 300 attendees from across the South, affirming its status as a key event for underground metal. They also made an impactful appearance at the Southammer Metal Fest, among the biggest extreme metal festivals in the country.
Looking ahead, Jumpscare are already working on the next chapter: a brand new full-length album currently in the works, ready to push their vision even further!
